I took the What are your political leanings test at www.politicalcompass.org, and then talked about it with various friends on IRC; I found the results kinda amusing.

My results are (-2.88, -4.31). I find this amusing, not because I'm a leftist libertarian [which I am], but that my score was more conservative and more authoritarian than anyone else (who was around at the time, admittedly) online.

When I pointed this out to them, they had difficulty with that result; I guess I seem much more radical than I actually am.

Haha! I am more lefty than Ghandi and on a par with red ken. This makes me happy.

I am more anarchist than thou

-6.12, -7.13

Gnat is right there, too.

I am having a hard time coming up with anyone I know and converse with regularly who *isn't* a negative/negative.

This actually surprised me. I consider myself quite the little leftist, with a decidedly socialist bent. This, however, teaches me that I'm a little more like all my creepy Libertarian friends than I'd previously owned up to. It's actually kind of comforting. :)

I'm: Economic Left/Right: -6.25 Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.95
I knew I leaned towards Communism, but I didn't realize I was so close to Anarchism.

I've been a bit unhappy with that test. It's quite notably US-centric in it's evaluation of political leanings, despite making reference to a variety of world figures. It's also really easy to skew the test if you're so inclined.

Read their FAQ, as they do address these issues:

First of all, it seems to be based in the UK (look at the politicians they use). They put in a few questions based on directions of politics in Europe. But it is specific to Western culture.

And as far as skewing:

Respondents are going to feel under pressure to be politically correct
Not really, because we've assured them that not only are their identities unknown, but their responses totally unrecorded. So the only actual pressure will come from themselves. We've found that a lot of people aren't comfortable with the first result, so they go through the propositions again, changing some of their earlier responses. It's a bit like an overweight person stepping back on the scales after removing their shoes.

Interesting, this is further left than it was when I took this 2 months ago, even though I'm the only pro-war person in my immediate circle of friends.

An anarcho-socialist collective...

Mine: -5.88/6.97, if I remember rightly.

I'm not surprised, although I thought the questions were quite loaded and made it very easy for me to hit "strongly agree" or "strongly disagree" a lot. Perhaps it was designed to evoke strong reactions.
