Current Mood: disappointed disappointed

The person to whom I made the reply given in the last post really did take me off her friends list. Sigh. It seems that sometimes there's no room for discussion or dissent - from both sides of the spectrum.

I thought your reply was well stated. I don't understand why people feel the need to only associate with people that share their same opinions. Personally, I find it much more interesting to have thoughtful discussions with people that have opinions that differ from my own. Having a complete grasp around an issue usually requires understanding all sides of an argument. You don't usually learn as much by only discussing things with people that agree with you.

The freedom to express one's opinion, the protections for that freedom that we have built into our Constitution, and the people who understand and fight to protect that right are one of the greatest things about this country (USA).

Unfortunately true. It's a shame that we can't either discuss rationally - or just decide that it's a good idea to change subjects, and agree to disagree.

OTOH, I was recently frustrated by someone who insisted on expressing his opinions at a volume that exceeded the capacity of my headphones/iPod to drown him out - and then got offended when I picked up to leave, so's not to be disturbed. *sigh*

Takes all sorts.
