Work. @ 12:34 am

I found out yesterday that we in the IT staff have two High School interns with us for the summer; today I and my boss had lunch with. Daniel is the much more traditional geek-type person; he wants to be an EE, has "only" assembled one machine from scratch, etc. Julia, on the other hand, wants to major in bioinformatics (!) because she likes both biology and math. (She's also gonna be damn cute in about five years.)

During lunch, I talked a little, web (my boss) talked an awful lot (as is normal per him). and the two interns didn't talk much at all. (If I were a sixteen year-old intern going to lunch with some random guys, I don't think I'd say a whole lot, either.) After dropping off the two interns at their building, web and I went back up to our floor. Web remarked, "Well, that was painful," and then proceeded to talk about how they didn't say much.

It makes me wonder if he failed to empathize with their position, or what. In any case, I hope I don't forget what it was like to be a kid, teen, young adult, or whatever.

and him talking so much probably made them feel even less inclined to open up.

Sometimes I don't understand how some people can be so insensitive. I guess we all can't be Deanna Troi.

Agreed. Sounds like they were acting like normal teenagers, and he wasn't empathetic. Or considerate enough to involve them in conversation.

Is that a Lego X-Wing Fighter in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
