I'm starting to think that if I had a chance to do this over, I would not get the UPPP at the same time as everything else; the 'not being able to drink without concentrating on it not coming out my nose' bit sucks much ass, and I suspect that it's what caused me to chew the hell out of the sides of my tongue. In addition, one of oxycodone's side effects is dry mouth - exactly the opposite of what one want when it's difficult to drink and you can't breathe through your nose. (Had majorly fucked-up nightmares like I hadn't had for years, too.)

In short - bleh.

Laying off the oxycodone and eating both seem to have helped quite a bit.

Eating hasn't been the problem - it's the drinking.

I gather, and from my own experience I've found, that it's common to want to gnaw gently on the inside of your mouth when on opioids. Tongue, cheeks, lips, the little nubbin of gum behind your top front teeth, etc. Sorta feels good, which is kinda scary.

I'd say I hope you get better, but I already read the later entries and I know you are. :)

I didn't get that sensation - but then again, I don't think the oxycodone actually did much for me; vicodin certainly didn't. I suspect I'm opiate-resistant in general.

I think what actually happened is that the tonsular pillars are the same hunka muscle as the sides of the tongue, and so swelling in one place causes swelling in the other.
