Current Mood: hot hot
Current Music: Eno/Cale, Wrong Way Up, Crime in the Desert

Good grief, looking over my journal, I sound terribly emo. I have several theories why this might be:

1. I actually am emo. (This doesn't seem too likely; I have neither the glasses nor the hair for it.)
2. Good news is no news, and thus not written about - so what remains is mopey, angsty, etc.
3. When I write, it's usually about some particular thing - and that usually involves some flavor of self-analysis. While I may be plenty cheerful in person about things, some aspect of my issue-laden dirty laundry is often exposed as part of the examination.
4. I have no idea what to write about, and writing emo-esque things is the easiest.

This started out being a post about relationships and stuff like that - in particular, how I tend to be very, very quiet about stating affection or interest in people (and thus end up not getting involved with people unless they express something first) - but it's too hot for me to assemble my thoughts coherently for that* - and it's supposed to be 85F tomorrow. Yeesh.

* giving credence to #4, perhaps?

I mock your 85F. It's 103.1F outside right now where I am.

According to USA Today (not the best source, but the one I found first), 85 degrees at 50% humidity has an apparent temperature of 88F, and 100F at 15% humidity (close to today's conditions here) has an apparent temperature of 97F.

Which puts us closer together than I thought, but still...

Around these parts it's not supposed to get hot enough to need air conditioning--or at least it's not supposed to get that hot for more than a couple weeks out of the year. Hence, nobody has any.

Oh sweety. If you ever need some reassurance that you *don't* sound painfully emo, just pop in Metallica's "Some Kind of Monster" dvd and ground yourself. No one, no one, is as emo as Metallica - believe it or not.

It's 82.4F a bit after midnight, at 63% humidity, and with a mild humidex of 91F... no, there's no AC here, either.

CHEER UP EMO KID

Also: DC = 88F; 91F with humidity.

81F in here with the a/c on, according to the thermostat.

Y'all all become tropical fish out there. :)

Ditto on 2 and to some extent 3...well, actually I have another reason for not writing about good news, which is that I don't trust the news to stay good and don't want to have to tell everyone "never mind that good news I mentioned." But over time I've gotten wary of being too angsty, with the result that I just post less in general.

What exactly does emo mean? A test on OKCupid said I'm emo, and my sister said that, too. Now I'm worried!

Wikipedia can explain it far better than I can; the gist is that it means one's whiny, mopey, drama-laden, etc - goth but with terrible fashion sense, essentially.

I'm still writing a response to your mail, heh.

Oh. Heh. I guess I can be a little bit whiny and mopey *sometimes*, but I like to think my fashion sense is OK. :)
