my most recent LJ stalker challenge @ 05:01 pm

Current Mood: contemplative contemplative
Current Music: TMBG, Space Suit

I play on a MUSH*, and I was talking with a friend about people's LJs and soforth - and thus, the challenge was enjoined: find other players' LJs! This is made rather more difficult by the fact that I only have the meagerest of information on who the other people are, and that nobody I know of actually writes about what their character does in their journals. It's a fun challenge, since I've mostly had to go by "feel" of the prose style. The most interesting part has been seeing what the social web looks like - who knows/has friended whom, what sorts of emergent groups there are, that sort of thing. I've only been able to verify a few of my guesses, but they seem pretty good so far.
* No, I ain't gonna say who - but I think it should be pretty obvious.

my gog! how about you design a mush based upon the professional stalker?

it will be called: stalkerGATE

you go around trying to get jobs stalking people. you but items to help you on your quest (sonic ear, +3 to listen in on targets conversations). then you like get bigger, harder targets like the president of costa rica or something.

It's been quite some time since I've MUSHed regularly, but I used to really enjoy it when I was an undergrad. Don't think I ever played on Masquerade, though. What's your opinion of the place? (Obviously you must like it somewhat since you play there. :)

I quite like it; the levels of twinkies are low, the RP I'm involved in is generally of very high quality, and the players seem to be pretty sane. Mortals aren't second-class citizens (it's a VtM/Mage/Shifter/WoD MU, if you haven't seen the site) and seem to get plenty involved with things. There's a few bumps along the way, admittedly, but I think it's well worth checking out.

Hmmm, I was just wondering why you friended me and now I wonder if it's because of this. Of course, now I'm confused about who you are, honestly.

Peripherally, yes; I came across you when looking for other people's LJs. I have no idea who you actually are, but you know seshat, I could have sworn I've seen you post in somebody's journal, and the pics of your hair look way too familiar. Of course, I could well be confused and making far too many false inferences and I've never had even the most tenuous of contact with you; but eh, I've added random people to my friends list before, and your writing had more than a modicum of style and content to it - so I figured "why not?"

As far as to who I am, I'm just some random dork; I'd be happy to unfriend you if if this is excessively creepy or whatever.

*laugh* No worries. I'm always startled when people want to read when I ramble, particularly if I don't know who they are.

Funny: as I was looking at your LJ in my irregular bout of 'look at LJs of people I haven't friended back', I was having a conversation on Puzzlebox about much the same thing. Someone mentioned that they're a secret alt of 'the second biggest character on the muck', which could be read in SO many ways. And I noted that I kinda don't want to work out who else they are. Except I do it unconsciously.

Sometimes the prose stle is a huge giveaway. Sometimes other things.

I find for me it isn't so much prose style, as prose structure and form: what ideas are presented, in what order, and what sort of transitions are made from one subject to the next.

Not knowing stuff is what makes the MU*ing fun.
