"nobody understands me!" @ 05:36 pm

Current Mood: pissy/irritable
Current Music: Sergio Mendez + Brazil 66, Mais Que Nada

On IRC, there was a discussion that included the line "i hate men. i think that is it. i am just tired of them not getting us."

That sort of sentiment pisses me off to no end for a multitude of reasons, but foremost among them is this: it implies that understanding is something that's passively done - and that it doesn't require interaction and work.

(This has been a Typical Male Emotional Expression of Anger through succinct digested thought; translations to the talk-it-out emotional format will be available in the foyer.)

I hear you. I hate that crap... male or female broad generalizations and sit-com stereotypes that people turn into self-fulfilling prophecies. This guy Jackson Katz recently lectured here and was phenomenal- I think you'd appreciate what he has to say.

Hey, it's okay. I don't understand women, either.

i thought the entire point of irc was to have a place to talk out of your ass through your fingertips-- you know, a write only medium. clearly your problem was actually paying ATTENTION to what was being said....

okay, i'm being a bit facetious, but don't you think the comment was being made facetiously, too?

Alas, I don't think it was. Might have been "ha ha, only serious", but facetious? No.
