and all is revealed. @ 05:55 am

Current Mood: sad sad

It appears the reason Yahoo! flew me out here was to lay me off in person. I think I'd have preferred to stay in Tokyo to find this out.

:( I'm sorry. At the same time, I know of several positions you'd be good for that are open — are you looking to stay in Tokyo ?

Well, while I'd prefer to stay in Tokyo - at this point, I'm open to suggestion.

So did they at least fly you BACK to Tokyo? or are they stiffing you with the bill of getting "home" to Tokyo?

No, I already have my return ticket to Tokyo (it was a round-trip booking); they said that they'll also pay for my (one-way) ticket back from Tokyo -> US.

I know when I got laid off as a CA US employee from NetApp, I was subject to the WARN act. They had to give me 60 days notice, and then severance package kicks in AFTER that 60 days. Hpefully, since you are a Y! US employee, you are based out of CA, and are subject to WARN acts which would let you claim to be Y! employee for 60 more days in Japan... maybe time to find other work in Japan.

Ack! I was afraid of that. =( Yahoo! has been all kinds of unimpressive in their corporate decisionmaking lately, at least from my perspective.

Sorry to hear it. Good luck finding your next gig!

Had a hunch, given the impending layoffs, that they had brought you back here for this. Sorry to hear it, though :(

This is such a pile of shit. Fly you back to SF, can you, make you fly back to JP to get your stuff, the fly you back to SF again... that's just plain -mean-.

So sorry to hear this... and I hope you find a new company that aren't as douchebaggery.

Lame! I'm sorry.

The only saving grace is that there's a lot of that going around. In times like this, interviewers don't look suspiciously at your resume when you admit to having been laid off; they nod sagely and move on.

That is total lamesauce. I'm glad they're at least paying for the remaining airfare as needful. Sheesh.

I know someone in SF who is looking for some people. But I don't remember what flavor of computer you do...
Do any of these describe you? --> "I need a strong Java engineer, a good QA person (SDET or QAE), and a random star programmer."
If you're staying in Japan, you should come visit Kyoto sometime!

There are mistakes, and then there are "oh hell, we laid off who? now what?" mistakes.

Much with the suck. I'm sorry to hear that.

I don't know if you want to stay in Japan or not... The company I'm working for is looking to hire a system administrator -- though I'll warn you that it's very likely to be lower paying and more junior than what you're looking for. Just mentioning in case it might be of help to you.
