(no subject) @ 12:57 am

It appears that as of 18 Aug 2007, my address (for about three months) will be 2-21-9-204 Kamimeguro, Meguro-ku, Tokyo 153-0051, Japan. (The stupid spamfilter at work flagged their confirmation mail as spam.)

Numbers! Lots of numbers! I'm used to lovely street names (at best). So many numbers makes my brain collapse like a collapsing Hrung!

To see the whole sordid story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_addressing_system

In short: tokyo -> meguro -> kamimeguro 2nd ward -> block 21 -> building 9 -> apartment 204. It doesn't help that addresses are written differently in kanji than in romaji; in kanji, it'd be "153-0051 [tokyo metro area] [meguro] [kamimeguro] 2-21-9-204" - almost, but not quite, "backwards" from the roman script version. Buh.

So if I were to send you mail, I would address the envelope with:

Winner of the Loreal Hair Coloring Contest
153-0051
Tokyo, Japan
Meguro-ku, Kamimeguro
2-21-9-204

?

No, in roman script you'd put it just like I said it.
In japanese, on the other hand, it would look like

〒101-0051
東京都目黒区
上目黒2-21-9-204

I think.
